The restaurant is housed in a building with an illustrious history. It was built about 70 years ago by the National Biscuit Company (Nabisco). The property went from storing crackers to serving drinks when during the prohibition years it became the "Blind Tiger," a speakeasy. Patrons would come to this secret saloon to see the fictitious blind tiger but they didn't seem to mind that it never appeared as long as the drinks kept flowing. The speakeasy was destroyed by a tornado in 1938 and the end of prohibition. Over the years, the property has been home to a few different clubs and restaurants. When Skipper Condon opened A.W. Shuck's, the property was part oyster bar and nightclub. Over 10 years of hard work and support from a strong local patronage have made the restaurant what it is today. The restaurant has retained the basic layout of the old Nabisco warehouse with some nautical touches. The atmosphere is casual and inviting. The patio area offers a great place to watch the shoppers in the Market go by. The large hardwood bar in the center of the dining room is a place you know someone will know your name. Locals who frequent the bar on a regular basis have name plates at their favorite spot. They always have room for more.
